In late July 2011 I got an
opportunity to tour the Allied Paper Superfund landfill in
Kalamazoo between Alcott and Cork Streets. There is not much
to see now as the PCBs on site have already been buried and
capped. The grass has grown lushly on top of the landfill.
The first three photos below are looking from close to the
top of the landfill to the East, then South, then North..
On the left
is the old Bryant Mill clarifier. The pole barn contains
some basic laboratory facilities.
Looking up
the slope of the landfill from the East side close to
Portage Creek.
Looking
North along the East side of the landfill.
Portage
Creek flowing by the East side of the landfill and a
close-up of the sheet pile wall that has been used where the
creek runs alongside the landfill.
