2018 Bryant Mill Pond Dam Removal

In 2018 the 90-year old dam for the Bryant Mill pond was removed. The reasons given for this removal are that the dam no longer has a function, prevents fish migration and holds contaminated sediments in place.

This project cost four million dollars. The big cost is because of the contamination and that the dam is structurally tied in to the Alcott St bridge. The bed of the creek south of the bridge was shifted to the west. Half the cost was paid by the Natural Resource Damage Trustee Council, which used funds set aside in the Lyondell Chemical bankruptcy.

Here are 49 photos of the project, which started in February and finished in early July (these photos may take 30 seconds to a minute to load at the start of the show):  Slide Show of Dam Removal Photos
